Devlog#1 Starting our research
Hello readers!
Welcome to our first devlog! :)
Firstly we will shortly explain our game we will be making:
Our game is a 4-player co-op platformer. As a group of penguins, the players are trying to avoid a polar bear that is hunting them. They have to work together to try and get to the end of a path. The path is made up of obstacles that they have to get through, either by means of platforming or solving puzzles. In the final stage the players will encounter the polar bear in a boss fight, where they have to defeat him once and for all.
We started researching this week. These are some things we would like to share with you! Hope you like it! :)
- Tested out the local multiplayer in UE5 and Unity. If you download our current build, you will be able to test it out!
- Used a penguin mesh to test out animations in Mixamo and try out a death animation.
- Figuring out the best way to make a water shader with UE5 and Unity: playing around with moving waves, water circles...
- Created a procedural ground plane generator in Houdini to create different kinds of ground planes quickly
- Tried out vfx in UE5 and Unity: laser and snow flakes
- Played around with creating cracks in a mesh in Houdini
- Decided to use low poly meshes and not UE5's Nanite
Thanks for reading! See you next week!
